Volkswagen Type 2 T1 ‘Sundial’ Camper, year 1964. Chassis number 225026168. Colour: Creme white over green. Cream white wheels, dashboard, and steering wheel. Beige with light beige vinyl interior upholstery. This gorgeous VW Type 2 T1 Transporter was built in the Hannover Volkswagen factory. The T1 panel van was delivered new in the USA where it was converted to a camping vehicle by the firm of Sundial. In the year 2001 the VW Camper was sold to Ireland, in 2013 the car found a new owner in Germany. In Germany the car was extensively restored to very high standards by a specialist firm in the period 2018-2019. Costs nor effort were spared aiming for perfection. The bodywork was wonderfully restored, the interior was completely renewed, and the mechanical components were overhauled. During the restoration the original 30 bhp engine was replaced by a more powerful 80 bhp variant. Of course, technical upgrades were incorporated to cope with the additional power and speed potential. The steering gear was improved, and disc brakes were added at the front wheels (a very expensive conversion) for additional stopping power and safety. This VW Type 2 T1 drives and handles much better than a fully original example, and it offer a lot more driving fun! This Volkswagen Type 2 T1 Camper has the looks, the ‘oomph’ and the necessary safety upgrades. Some of you may be confused by the designation Type 2 T1; the VW ‘Beetle was the first Volkswagen model, the Type 1. The Transporter or Microbus was the second model, the Type 2. The first Transporter model was the T1 produced between 1950 and 1967.
