Bentley – Royce V12 special, year 1937. Colour dark British Racing Green, interior with black leather bucket seats. This tremendous Bentley special was based upon a 1937 ‘Derby’ Bentley chassis, chassis number B89JX. Derby Bentleys were built by Rolls – Royce since the Bentley take-over in 1931. This magnificent automobile is powered by one of the most exotic Rolls Royce motorcar engines; The wonderfully engineered Phantom III V12 with overhead valves and a cylinder capacity of 7340 cc, engine number P74X. The original and renowned British registration DOC9 is still present!
This impressive Bentley – Royce special was built by the Englishman Bob Burrell in the 1960s. Burrell had a wonderful ‘Brooklands’ style body made to fit on the 1937 chassis. The Phantom V12 engine was given a ‘dry sump’ oil system, a compressor (blower), a high capacity cooling system and powerful Alfa Romeo 8C competition drum brakes. In the pointed tail a combined petrol / oil tank was fitted. Burrell entered the car for many races and events in Great Britain. Bob Burrell owned the car for over thirty years. The car was cherished by enthusiast owners over the last decades, the automobile is in a wonderful vintage condition! The driving experience is ‘explosive’; power is instantly available, and it is hard to avoid wheel spin in all gears (!). This is a very fast Bentley special; the engine can rev up to about 4500 rpm and the soundtrack is incredible! This Bentley – Royce V12 special comes perfectly documented. Included are documents of the build and (service) invoices. A lot has been invested by the previous owners to keep this special in splendid condition. The car is listed in many Bentley books.
