Bentley 3 ½ litre Sports Special, year 1935. Chassis number B109EJ, engine number D8BZ. Original U.K. registration: CJJ402. Colour dark blue combined with a pale blue leather interior and dark blue wool carpet. Black soft top and black side screens. This glorious Bentley was built in the ‘Derby’ factory and sold new in the U.K. fitted with a “Park Ward” saloon bodywork. In the year 2000 the automobile underwent an extensive mechanical overhaul by a British Bentley Specialist. In the process an aluminium cylinder head was fitted, and several other technical modifications were carried out. The works are documented in the extensive history and service folder. In the same period the existing bodywork was replaced for a light open tourer bodywork by bodywork specialist Henderson. A very handsome and clever two-seater open body was designed and build with striking lines, easy to erect weather equipment, and a separate boot. In the year 2011 the car was fully inspected and brought up to date by specialist Fiennes in the U.K. The current owner has enjoyed and cherished the automobile ever since and has participated in several historic ‘rally’ touring events like the Rally des Alpes, the Flying Scotsman (multiple editions), and finally in the 2013 Cape Horn rally where it finished 3rd overall!
